Spell: Candleburst

Candleburst

Evocation [Fire]

Level: Sorcerer/Wizard 2
Components: V, S
Casting Time: 1 standard action
Range: Close (25 ft. + 5 ft./2 levels)
Target: One lit candle
Duration: Instantaneous
Saving Throw: Reflex half
Spell Resistance: Yes

A single lit candle within range suddenly flares brilliantly before violently exploding in a burst of flame.

The targeted candle is destroyed, and the explosion deals 1d4 points of fire damage per caster level to all creatures within 5 feet of the candle. The spell deals a maximum of 10d4 points of damage. A successful Reflex save halves the damage.

The candle must be lit at the time the spell is cast. The spell can target a candle regardless of whether it is being held, mounted in a holder, or otherwise unattended, provided it is within range. The spell has no effect on an unlit candle.

The explosion is instantaneous and does not ignite unattended combustible objects in the area unless the DM determines that particularly flammable materials are present.

A magical candle can be targeted by candleburst, although any special magical properties of the candle are unaffected by the explosion.

Material Component

A tiny fragment of candle wick.
